About the school

  • What is King’s Academy Varna?

A private school in Varna following an international British programme with a strong STEM focus. We work in small groups, with individual support for every child and teaching mainly in English.

  • Which year groups does the school cover?

At its start the school covers primary — Years 1 and 2. The range will expand as the school develops.

  • What is the school’s current status?

King’s Academy Varna is an educational project in the process of preparation and licensing by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science. Published information describes planned provision and may be updated according to the approvals received. The full statement is in our “School Status and Public Information Statement”.

  • Where is the school located?

We are located at Chayka 128, Varna — a quiet district close to the Sea Garden, easily reachable from most parts of the city.

Learning

  • What does “international British programme” mean?

The British model rests on a few principles: a lesson starts from a question rather than a ready answer; topics return over the years at ever greater depth; skills are developed alongside knowledge; and assessment serves learning rather than ranking.

  • What is the language of instruction?

Teaching is delivered mainly in English — it is the working language of the classroom, not a separate subject. This way children acquire the language naturally, in context.

  • My child does not speak English. Will they cope?

The programme is designed so that a child with no prior English can settle in gradually, with systematic support. At an early age this process is most natural — young children acquire a second language much as they acquired their first.

  • Will my child study Bulgarian language and literature?

Yes. Bulgarian language and culture are part of the programme, so that pupils remain connected to their native language, history and traditions.

  • What does a “STEM focus” mean?

For us STEM is not a separate subject but a way of working: observe, ask, predict, test, explain. Children run experiments, take on engineering challenges and connect what they learn to the real world.

  • How is learning assessed?

Assessment serves learning — it shows the child and the teacher what has been mastered and where more work is needed. Our detailed policy on this is published among the school documents.

Admissions & fees

  • How does the admissions process work?

It starts with an expression of interest through the website or a phone call. A meeting follows, where we discuss the pupil’s academic readiness, level of English, interests and the family’s expectations. We then inform you of the decision and the next steps.

  • Is there an entrance exam?

Not an exam in the classic sense. During the initial meeting we assess academic readiness and the level of English so that we can judge how best to support the child.

  • How much does tuition cost?

Fee information is provided individually, on enquiry and in consultation with the family. Fees depend on the chosen educational pathway, year group, mode of study and additional services. Contact us and we will send you specific information.

  • Does an expression of interest commit me to anything?

No. Submitting an enquiry form does not constitute final admission, a contract or a guarantee of a place. It is the first step towards a conversation.

  • When will I get a reply?

We contact you within one working day of receiving your enquiry.

Exam preparation

  • Who can enrol in exam preparation?

The courses are open to pupils from any school in Varna — your child does not need to attend King’s Academy. We work with Years 4, 7 and 10 in Bulgarian language and literature and in mathematics.

  • How does preparation start?

With a free initial diagnostic. We establish the current level, see which tasks cause difficulty and determine what needs to be worked on.

  • How many pupils are in a group?

Up to 10 pupils, so that the teacher can follow each one’s work and respond promptly to any difficulty.
